Hunger, nutrition and equal access to food have been an ongoing area of advocacy and action for the YAPC. The Whitehorse Food Bank was made possible in 2007 through a collaboration of Coalition members and  concerned citizens. Food security continues to be an urgent topic for the territory both in terms of emergency food provision and the need for  a long-term strategy to address food insecurity and sovereignty across Yukon.

The Yukon Anti-Poverty Coalition began facilitating Food Security forums in  2012. These forums have evolved into the Food Network Yukon and are an  opportunity for stakeholder groups and concerned citizens to network and  exchange knowledge around food and food security. We have welcomed  representatives from Yukon Government, the City of Whitehorse, NGO's,  food retailers, food producers and food activists around the circle.

The  past 12 months have clearly indicated that Food Security in the Yukon  needs to be addressed with concrete action rather than further studies.  The response from the community to support people who are food insecure  across the Territory has been nothing short of amazing. That being said, the approach is not sustainable and we need to work together to  find longer term solutions to the identified needs.  We recognize that  supporting people and agencies in every community who know what they  need to have a longer term solution to food insecurity, is the best way  forward. Seeing a need for energetic, nonprofit work in this area, we formed our organization to provide sensible solutions. We've consistently grown since then, all thanks to the helping hands of this amazing community!
